Tasting Relax Riesling

This past week, one of my roommates had her 21st birthday!!! Of course I used this as an excuse to drink on a weeknight (as if I needed one).

We met up at The Mont where we bought her a bunch of inappropriately named shots and ate a lot of chips and queso. I immediately looked to the drink menu to see what my options were. I saw the word "riesling" and stopped my search immediately.

When my glass came, I got a lot of crap from my friends ("this is a party, Haley, not a concert reception") but once I told them it was for a class they all shifted from haughty to extremely jealous. It's not my fault they're terrible at searching for interesting courses.

This brand of riesling comes from Germany, specifically Mosel-Saar-Ruwer. The glass costed about $6, but a bottle normally goes for about $11 from what I've found. Again, I couldn't figure out a year, but from I can tell this particular brand is a bulk wine. I also found out from one of the films that the winemakers won't always list a vintage year, especially if it wasn't a great vintage. I don't know if that applies here, but I would still appreciate a listed year for records sake. (Also, sorry for the internet pic, I didn't know if it was appropriate to ask the waiter to bring out the bottle for me to take a picture, but I did get pics of my glass and the event itself!)

I first sniffed the glass in a very official way to impress my friends. It smelled like apples and citrus, and a little bit of that stomach bile taste/smell that I'm strangely into. When I tasted it, I could taste the fruits I smelled, along with some pineapple, cilantro (not sure on that one, just some sort of strong herb), tree, onion, and lemon lime. It was very tropical to my taste buds, and was tart and acidic, exactly how I like my wine.

I also got the birthday girl to try it (she loves wine) and she gave me an eloquent review:
"That's f***ing delicious."

Please enjoy some elegant pictures.
