Tasting Flip Flop

On Saturday, CJ and I went to Louie's for lunch because I'm still pescatarian and was craving their blackened shrimp tacos!

While I was there, I decided to try some wine with my dinner :)

I explained to the waitress the kind of wine I enjoyed and what food I was ordering, so she recommended something not TOO sweet, but light and white so I could enjoy my shrimp. She recommended the Flip Flop moscato. She said it was lightly sweet, and had a bubbly aspect to it.


The glass costed about $4.50. It came out in a HUGE glass, so I decided to try sniffing it. I swirled it around and sniffed, and got quite a bit of clues! I could immediately smell the green apple and the peaches, and could tell it would be sweet. After I got to taste it, I could get the acidity of it, and it had a syrupy quality to it.  It had a hint of strawberry to me, and was also possibly oily (unless that's the same thing as syrupy).



When my shrimp tacos came out, I tried them with my drink. It definitely added a spiciness to the drink, and burned a little bit. The sweetness wasn't as prominent, and I was able to taste a bit of melon! I don't like melon though.

My friends had so much fun at our last wine n' cheese pairing, that THEY put together the second one! We all headed to Crest for cheese again and forgot they also sell wine or else probably would've picked that up from there too, but whatever. Trips to the liquor store are always fun anyway. This time, we picked out asiago, provolone (my favorite cheese everrrrr), and more havarti since it was a hit last time. Evan also grabbed some little jars of jam and some honey. Drink This Now Experiment 1

Hooray! This Saturday evening I had the chance to do a wine experiment with my friend Evan and my bf CJ (sorry if you're tired of hearing about these people, I have like 5 friends total). First, we had to pick out some aromatic wines. I let Evan take the lead on the red because I still haven't gotten used to it, and I set off for the white. I wasn't sure just how aromatic riesling was (since that's honestly what I wanted to go for) so I asked the staff and they told me they recommended a pinot grigio for something really smelly (sigh..... I had a bad time with pinot last time, but okay). They led me to a fairly inexpensive half bottle since I let them in on what the experiment was. Evan was directed to the zinfandels, and he went ahead and bought a whole bottle since he figured he'd finish it off.
