Wine and Cheese Pairing 2

Image
My friends had so much fun at our last wine n' cheese pairing, that THEY put together the second one! We all headed to Crest for cheese again and forgot they also sell wine or else probably would've picked that up from there too, but whatever. Trips to the liquor store are always fun anyway. This time, we picked out asiago, provolone (my favorite cheese everrrrr), and more havarti since it was a hit last time. Evan also grabbed some little jars of jam and some honey. We also nabbed two types of crackers. For the sake of tasting the wine and cheese primarily, I did not attempt wine tasting with the fancy pita ones. (Our wonderful crackers and cheese spread! Featuring the same group of friends lol). When we got to the liquor store, we once again broke off to pick out our wines of choice. I knew that we didn't always finish the wines, so I headed for their half bottle selection. They didn't have a riesling, but I'd heard that pinot grigio could be something ...

Tasting Sutter Home Red

As I mentioned previously, my bf and I bought two little 4 packs of cheap wines. He chose the Sweet Red variety (which didn't give much description). After I downed a Moscato, I tried his choice. His was the same price of $7, and his wine was a sweet red blend from California. Cute part 2. I actually enjoyed his wine even though I'm not normally into reds. It had that dusty taste that is very cool and I've tasted before in a cabernet. It's a very muted musty taste that accompanies the dryness and I really like it. It was sweet, but somehow in a different way than a white. This was sweet like dried fruit or jam rather than the apple sweetness of whites. It tasted a bit like blackberries or plums, a dark juicy fruit. The alcohol didn't taste especially strong, but the dryness was very evident, and it had a medium body. I tried this one with our deluxe array of cheeses as well. Recycled images because same snacks. I stuck with the toasted sesame crackers ...

Tasting Sutter Home White

Made another trip to Crest recently for fun because that's how I spend my free time. Found out they sell cute little four-packs of wine that are each about 5 oz and great for someone like me who can't get through a whole bottle in one sitting! Hazzah! They didn't have my favorite as an option (riesling) but they had Moscato, which is still a sweet white wine so that's what I picked out. My boyfriend picked out a sweet red (he's a big cabernet guy, but if he didn't like it he hoped I'd drink it because it was sweet). Isn't it cute? The packs were each about $7, so not a bad price. The Moscato was from California. I stuck my pack into the freezer when we got to CJ's apartment so that they would chill. When they were nice and chilled and I ran out of patience, I tried it. It tasted somewhat like riesling, keeping the citrusy/crisp notes, but had a bigger presence of alcohol in my opinion. It was slightly less sweet than a riesling, but had ex...
